Szósta coroczna edycja Game Awards odbyła się 12.12.2019 w Microsoft Theater w Los Angeles. W ponad 50 krajach można było oglądać transmisję na żywo z wydarzenia dzięki serwisom takim jak Youtube czy Twitch.
Death Stranding Hideo Kojimy zdobyło aż 10 nominacji, m.in. za najlepszą grę roku, narrację, reżyserię oraz grę aktorską. Z kolei hit studia Remedy/505 Games Control został wyróżniony w 8 kategoriach, w tym również za grę roku i najlepszy występ aktorski.
Znany na całym świecie Fortnite, strzelanka w formule free-to-play od Epic Games i zarazem zeszłoroczny zwycięzca z kategorii najlepszej gry multiplayer oraz najlepszej stale rozwijanej gry, ponownie został nominowany w obu kategoriach.
Największym zwycięzcą zostało Disco Elysium, które wygrało we wszystkich czterech kategoriach, w których było nominowane.
